24th July 2010 Attended the rally opposing the State Governments plans to re-zone prime farming land around Mt Barker to residential so an extra 30,000 people could be housed over the next 15 years. Got a mention on page 15 of the Advertiser on Monday in the article about this event. 28th July 2010 Made the front page of the Mt Barker Courier. Very happy with the coverage. 30th July 2010 Attended the ballot draw. Jamie Briggs was the only other candidate present. Did not draw well at position 5. Put up some posters and did some campaigning in Aberfoyle Park through to Kangarilla. Getting good feedback from facebook pages. 31st July 2010 Visited farmers market at Mt Barker and spoke to a number of stallholders. Major concerns about the lose of farm land and the threat to livelihood posed by increasing food imports. 1st August 2010 Went to the Mylor and Macclesfield Markets. Encouraging receiption at both. People are genuinely concerned about continual population growth. Checked out the development situation at Strathalbyn. Large tracts of land marked for subdivision. 2nd -4th August 2010 Posters going up all over the place. 6th August 2010 Finally got leaflets for letterbox. Lots of work to do in the next two weeks. Had fun writing response to questions from the different papers produce in the Mayo electorate. 7th August 2010 A neighbour told me a link to the Liberal Party was coming up at the top of a Google search for my name. It seems Liberals think it is alright to pay to masquerade as another candidate in the name of advertising. The link looks like it is to a page with the title Bill Spragg, Mayo but takes you directly to the Liberal Party home page which contains absolutely no mention of me. I would have thought this was misrepresentation and I am surprised Google has allowed a sponsored link which contains no information about the subject of the search. 8th August 2010 Letterbox Victor Harbor and bumped into a couple of old friends who recently retired to this neck of the woods. Bit of a problem with the number of holiday homes owned by people from Adelaide. Walked the dog while letterboxing. Longest walk she has ever had. Lodged a formal complaint with AEC over the Liberal Parties google "advertisements". They did not look like ads to me. 10th August 2010 Attending classes at Uni prevented campaigning today. Had to do data collection in the morning as part of a practical assignment. 12th August 2010 Up early to greet people at Crafers Park and Ride. Cold and misty morning but good response from people catching the bus to Adelaide. Then down to Strathalbyn to do more letterboxing. The town is suffering the development crisis with new subdivisions all over the place. Lots of Mac Mansions in some of the up market estates. Spent 5 hours in between showers and felt the exercise by the end of the day. Attended an public forum on the River Murray organised by the ACF. Senator Ann McEwen, Senator Mary-Joe Fisher and Greens candidate Matt Fisher were amongst the speakers. They all seem to miss the point about the impact that the buy back is having on communities. They also don't understand that if we keep increase the population we are going to need more and more water. 13th August 2010Spent most of the day catching up on a back-log of correspondence. Amazing how long it takes to answer letters that contain numerous questions. |
